Preaching Christ at Thessalonica

1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to aThessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
2 Then Paul, as his custom was, awent in to them, and for three Sabbaths breasoned with them from the Scriptures,
3 explaining and demonstrating athat the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.”
4 aAnd some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and bSilas.

What Does Acts 17:1 Mean?

Upon arriving in Thessalonica where a synagogue stood, Paul preached to Jews and Gentiles on the Sabbath. He followed Christ's example in doing so because the Sabbath is for everyone, not just the Jews. These Gentiles kept the Sabbath in the synagogue with the Jews on the seventh day, not Sunday.

Acts 17:1-3

Christ set the Sabbath-keeping example for his apostles, and Paul, following His example, tells us we are to imitate him as he imitates Christ (I Corinthians 11:1). Paul preached to the Jews and Gentiles on the Sabbath because the Sabbath is for everyone, not just the Jews. These Gentiles were keeping the Sabbath in the synagogue with the Jews on the seventh day, not Sunday.
