Acts 24:14
Compare all
12 aAnd they neither found me in the temple disputing with anyone nor inciting the crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.
13 Nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.
14 But this I confess to you, that according to athe Way which they call a sect, so I worship the bGod of my fathers, believing all things which are written in cthe Law and in the Prophets.
15 aI have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, bthat there will be a resurrection1 of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.
16 aThis being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.
17 “Now after many years aI came to bring alms and offerings to my nation,
18 ain the midst of which some Jews from Asia found me bpurified in the temple, neither with a mob nor with tumult.

Acts 24:14

I confess (omologw). The only charge left was that of being a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. This Paul frankly confesses is true. He uses the word in its full sense. He is "guilty" of that.

After the Way (kata thn odon). This word Paul had already applied to Christianity (Acts 22:4). He prefers it to "sect" (airesin which means a choosing, then a division). Paul claims Christianity to be the real (whole, catholic) Judaism, not a "sect" of it. But he will show that Christianity is not a deviation from Judaism, but the fulfilment of it (Page) as he has already shown in Gal. 3; Rom. 9.

So serve I the God of our fathers (outwv latreuw tw patrww qew). Paul has not stretched the truth at all. He has confirmed the claim made before the Sanhedrin that he is a spiritual Pharisee in the truest sense (Acts 23:6). He reasserts his faith in all the law and the prophets, holding to the Messianic hope. A curious "heretic" surely!

Which these themselves also look for (hn kai autoi outoi prosdexontai). Probably with a gesture towards his accusers. He does not treat them all as Sadducees. See Titus 2:13 for similar use of the verb (prosdexomenoi thn makarian elpida, looking for the happy hope).
