Paul Recounts His Conversion

12 a“While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,
13 at midday, O king, along the road I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me.
14 And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
15 So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.
16 But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, ato make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.
17 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, ato whom I now send you,

Acts 26:13

At midday (hmerav meshv). Genitive of time and idiomatic use of mesov, in the middle of the day, more vivid than meshmbrian (Acts 22:6).

Above the brightness of the sun (uper thn lamprothta tou hliou). Here alone not in Acts 9; 22, though implied in Acts 9:3; Acts 22:6, "indicating the supernatural character of the light" (Knowling). Luke makes no effort to harmonize the exact phrases here with those in the other accounts and Paul here (verse Acts 26:16) blends together what Jesus said to him directly and the message of Jesus through Ananias (Acts 9:15). The word lamprothv, old word, is here alone in the N.T.

Shining round about me (perilamyan me). First aorist active participle of perilampw, common Koin‚ verb, in N.T. only here and Luke 2:9.
