Romans 1:8
Compare all
6 among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;
7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, acalled to be saints: bGrace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Desire to Visit Rome

8 First, aI thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that byour faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9 For aGod is my witness, bwhom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that cwithout ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,
10 making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.
11 For I long to see you, that aI may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established—
12 that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by athe mutual faith both of you and me.

Romans 1:8

First (prwton men). Adverb in the accusative case, but no epeita de (in the next place) as in Hebrews 7:2 or epeita as in James 3:17 follows. The rush of thoughts crowds out the balanced phraseology as in Romans 3:2; I Corinthians 11:18.

Through (dia). As the mediator or medium of thanksgiving as in Romans 7:25.

For (peri). Concerning, about.

That (oti). Or because. Either declarative or causal oti makes sense here.

Your faith (h pistiv umwn). "Your Christianity" (Sanday and Headlam).

Is proclaimed (kataggelletai). Present passive indicative of kataggellw, to announce (aggellw) up and down (kata). See also anaggellw, to bring back news (John 5:15), apaggellw, to announce from one as the source (Matthew 2:8), prokataggellw, to announce far and wide beforehand (Acts 3:18).

Throughout all the world (en olw tw kosmw). Natural hyperbole as in Colossians 1:6; Acts 17:6. But widely known because the church was in the central city of the empire.
