20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? aWill the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”  
21 Does not the apotter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make bone vessel for honor and another for dishonor?  
22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering athe vessels of wrath bprepared for destruction,  
23 and that He might make known athe riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had bprepared beforehand for glory,  
24 even us whom He acalled, bnot of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?  
25 As He says also in Hosea:
a“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”

Romans 9:22

Willing (qelwn). Concessive use of the participle, "although willing," not causal, "because willing" as is shown by "with much long-suffering" (en pollh makroqumiai, in much long-suffering).

His power (to dunaton autou). Neuter singular of the verbal adjective rather than the substantive dunamin.

Endured (hnegken). Constative second aorist active indicative of the old defective verb ferw, to bear.

Vessels of wrath (skeuh orghv). The words occur in Jeremiah 50:25 (LXX 27:25), but not in the sense here (objective genitive like tekna orghv, Ephesians 2:3, the objects of God's wrath).

Fitted (kathrtismena). Perfect passive participle of katartizw, old verb to equip (see Matthew 4:21; II Corinthians 13:11), state of readiness. Paul does not say here that God did it or that they did it. That they are responsible may be seen from I Thessalonians 2:15 f.

Unto destruction (eiv apwleian). Endless perdition (Matthew 7:13; II Thessalonians 2:3; Philippians 3:19), not annihilation.
