Romans 15:2

Bearing Others’ Burdens

1 We athen who are strong ought to bear with the1 scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
2 aLet each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to1 edification.
3 aFor even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, b“The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.”
4 For awhatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the1 patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
5 aNow may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,
6 that you may awith one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 15:2

Please his neighbour - That is, all other persons, but especially the friends of the Redeemer. The word "neighbor" here has special reference to the members of the church. It is often used, however, in a much larger sense; see Luke 10:36.

For his good - Not seek to secure for him indulgence in those things which Would be injurious to him, but in all those things whereby his welfare would be promoted.

To edification - See the note at Romans 14:19.
