Wives, asubmit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
For athe husband is head of the wife, as also bChrist is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands ain everything.
aHusbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and bgave Himself for her,
that He might1 sanctify and cleanse her awith the washing of water bby the word,
athat He might present her to Himself a glorious church, bnot having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Subjecting yourselves to one another (upotassomenoi allhloiv). Present middle participle of upotassw, old military figure to line up under (Colossians 3:18). The construction here is rather loose, coordinate with the preceding participles of praise and prayer. It is possible to start a new paragraph here and regard upotassomenoi as an independent participle like an imperative.
