16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already¹ attained, ^alet us walk ^bby the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

17 Brethren, ^ajoin in following my example, and note those who so walk, as ^byou have us for a pattern.

18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are ^athe enemies of the cross of Christ:

19 ^awhose end is destruction, ^bwhose god is their belly, and ^cwhose glory is in their shame—^dwho set their mind on earthly things.

20 For ^aour citizenship is in heaven, ^bfrom which we also ^ceagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

21 ^awho will transform our lowly body that it may be ^bconformed to His glorious body, ^caccording to the working by which He is able even to ^dsubdue all things to Himself.

I told you often (pollakiv elegon). Imperfect active, repetition in Paul s warnings to them.

Even weeping (kai klaiwn). Deep emotion as he dictated the letter and recalled these recreant followers of Christ (cf. II Corinthians 2:4).

The enemies of the cross of Christ (touv exqrouv tou staurou tou Xristou). Either the Judaizers who denied the value of the cross of Christ (Galatians 5:11; Galatians 6:12, Galatians 6:14) or Epicurean antinomians whose loose living gave the lie to the cross of Christ (I John 2:4).
