2 Thessalonians 2:13

11 And ^afor this reason God will send them strong delusion, ^bthat they should believe the lie,

12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but ^ahad pleasure in unrighteousness.

Stand Fast

13 But we are¹ bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God ^afrom the beginning ^bchose you for salvation ^cthrough sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

14 to which He called you by our gospel, for ^athe obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Therefore, brethren, ^astand fast and hold ^bthe traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our¹ epistle.

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, ^awho has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and ^bgood hope by grace,

17 comfort your hearts ^aand establish you in every good word and work.

II Thessalonians 2:13 From the beginning. From the beginning God had determined on the salvation of the Gentiles, and arranged the plans by which they were saved. For a full discussion of the subject, see notes on Romans 9:1-33. Chosen you to salvation. In contrast with those who fall victims to the man of sin, the Thessalonian Christians had been chosen to life. Through sanctification of the Spirit. This clause tells how God chosen them to salvation. To this there are two sides, the human and the divine. On the human side they believed the truth. On the divine side, God sanctified them by the Spirit. He had chosen from the beginning all that believe and accept the truth.
