1 Timothy 1:13

11 according to the glorious gospel of the ^ablessed God which was ^bcommitted to my trust.

Glory to God for His Grace

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has ^aenabled me, ^bbecause He counted me faithful, ^cputting me into the ministry,

13 although ^aI was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an¹ insolent man; but I obtained mercy because ^bI did it ignorantly in unbelief.

14 ^aAnd the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, ^bwith faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

15 ^aThis is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that ^bChrist Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

16 However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.

I Timothy 1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious. Paul never could forget his old life, before he was converted. But I obtained mercy, because I did [it] ignorantly in unbelief. The reason is that he was honest, sincere in his opposition, being an unbeliever, and acting ignorantly. Had he been a willful sinner, he would never have been chosen.
