You know, you look at the Internet, and you look at advertisements on TV, and it seems like some religious person is trying to sell you something, and their interpretations or whatever it may be, or something or other. They have made godliness a means of gain. God allows Satan to lead people away from sound doctrine because some people think too little of the church and its doctrines, and they follow their own desires.
The apostle Paul's repeated emphasis on sound doctrine implies that the church's body of teaching is more than a gospel about Christ. It is the gospel of Christ and what He taught and lived in His own life. The sound doctrine of Christ is the pattern of sound words and a body of truth once for all delivered to the saints. And given the constant bombardment of false doctrines, the New Testament writers were inspired to warn us that God's church must be founded on the sound doctrine of Christ, to defend and contend for the faith.

Ritenbaugh, appeared in the CGG Weekly, August 16, 2024. He said, “Paul warns Timothy about teachers who are "proud, knowing nothing, but [are] obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wrangling of men of corrupt minds and destitute of truth . . ." (). "Arguments over words" can get a teacher into great trouble and actually lead him away from the doctrine of . So, Herbert Armstrong cautioned the church in days past not to hang a doctrine on the definition of a Greek or Hebrew word but rather let the preponderance of Scripture, particularly the clear verses, define the correct, godly meaning.
