Compare all
7 But into the second part the high priest went alone aonce a year, not without blood, which he offered for bhimself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance;
8 the Holy Spirit indicating this, that athe way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.
9 It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered awhich cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience—

The Heavenly Sanctuary

11 But Christ came as High Priest of athe good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
12 Not awith the blood of goats and calves, but bwith His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place conce for all, dhaving obtained eternal redemption.

Hebrews 9:9

Which (htiv). "Which very thing," the first tent (thv prwthv skhnhv, division of the tabernacle), a parenthesis and explanation.

A parable (parabolh). Only in the Synoptic Gospels in the N.T. and Hebrews 9:9; Hebrews 11:19. See on Matthew 13:3 for the word (from paraballw, to place alongside). Here like tupov (type or shadow of "the heavenly reality," Moffatt).

For the time now present (eiv ton kairon ton enesthkota). "For the present crisis " (kairon, not aiwna, age, not xronon, time). Perfect active articular (repeated article) participle of enisthmi (intransitive), the age in which they lived, not the past, not the future. See I Corinthians 3:22; Romans 8:38 for contrast between enestwta and mellonta. This age of crisis, foreshadowed by the old tabernacle, pointed on to the richer fulfilment still to come.

According to which (kaq hn). Here the relative refers to parabolh just mentioned, not to skhnhv. See Hebrews 5:1; Hebrews 8:3.

As touching the conscience (kata suneidhsin). For suneidhsiv see I Corinthians 8:10; I Corinthians 10:17; Romans 2:15. This was the real failure of animal sacrifice (Hebrews 10:1-4).

Make the worshipper perfect (teleiwsai ton latreuonta). First aorist active infinitive (Hebrews 2:10). At best it was only ritual or ceremonial purification (Hebrews 7:11), that called for endless repetition (Hebrews 10:1-4).
