Jude 1:8
Compare all
6 And the angels who did not keep their1 proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
7 as aSodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the1 vengeance of eternal fire.
8 aLikewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and bspeak evil of dignitaries.
9 Yet Michael the archangel, in1 contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, a“The Lord rebuke you!”
10 aBut these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way aof Cain, bhave run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished cin the rebellion of Korah.

Apostates Depraved and Doomed

12 These are1 spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried2 about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;
13 araging waves of the sea, bfoaming up their own shame; wandering stars cfor whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

Jude 1:8

Yet (mentoi). See John 4:27. In spite of these warnings.

In like manner (omoiwv). Like the cities of the plain.

These also (kai outoi). The false teachers of verse Judges 1:4.

In their dreamings (enupniazomenoi). Present middle participle of enupniazw, to dream (from enupnion dream, Acts 2:17, from en and upnov, in sleep), in Aristotle, Hippocrates, Plutarch, papyri, LXX (Joel 2:28), here only in N.T. Cf. Colossians 2:18.

Defile (miainousin). Present active indicative of minainw, old verb, to stain, with sin (Titus 1:15) as here. II Peter 2:10 has miasmou.

Set at nought (aqetousin). Present active indicative of aqetew, to annul. Both kuriothv (dominion) and docai (dignities) occur in II Peter 2:10, which see for discussion.
