Revelation 14:10
Compare all
8 And another angel followed, saying, a“Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because bshe has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, a“If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his bmark on his forehead or on his hand,
10 he himself ashall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is bpoured out full strength into cthe cup of His indignation. dHe shall be tormented with efire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
11 And athe smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”
12 aHere is the1 patience of the saints; bhere are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying1 to me, “Write: a‘Blessed are the dead bwho die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, c“that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow dthem.”

Revelation 14:10

He also shall drink (kai autov pietai). Future middle of pinw. Certainty for him as for Babylon and her paramours (Revelation 16:17).

Of the wine of the wrath of God (ek tou oinou tou qumou tou qeou). Note ek (partitive) after pietai. In Revelation 16:19; Revelation 19:15 we have both qumou and orghv (wrath of the anger of God). The white heat of God's anger, held back through the ages, will be turned loose.

Prepared unmixed (tou kekerasmenou akratou). A bold and powerful oxymoron, "the mixed unmixed." Akratov is an old adjective (alpha privative and kerannumi to mix) used of wine unmixed with water (usually so mixed), here only in N.T. So it is strong wine mixed (perfect passive participle of kerannumi) with spices to make it still stronger (cf. Psalms 75:9).

In the cup of his anger (en tw pothriw thv orghv autou). Both qumov (vehement fury) and orgh (settled indignation).

He shall be tormented (basanisqhsetai). Future passive of basanizw. See Revelation 9:5; Revelation 11:10.

With fire and brimstone (en puri kai qeiw). See Revelation 9:17 for fire and brimstone and also Revelation 19:20; Revelation 20:10; Revelation 21:8. The imagery is already in Genesis 19:24; Isaiah 30:33; Ezekiel 38:22.

In the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb (enwpion aggelwn agiwn kai enwpion tou arniou). This holy environment adds to the punishment.
