5 ^aThen the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward.

6 Then He said,
“Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him ^ain a vision;
I speak to him ^bin a dream.

7 Not so with ^aMy servant Moses;
^bHe is faithful in all ^cMy house.

8 I speak with him ^aface to face,
Even ^bplainly, and not in dark sayings;
And he sees ^cthe form of the Lord.
Why then ^dwere you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?”

9 So the anger of the Lord was aroused against them, and He departed.

10 And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, ^asuddenly Miriam became ^bleprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper.

11 So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! Please ^ado not lay this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.

Moses - is faithful - neeman , a prefect or superintendent. So Samuel is termed, I Samuel 2:35; I Samuel 3:20; David is so called, I Samuel 18:27, Neeman , and son-in-law of the king. Job 12:20, speaks of the Neemanim as a name of dignity. It seems also to have been a title of respect given to ambassadors, Proverbs 13:17; Proverbs 25:13. Calmet well observes that the word fidelity is often used for an employ, office, or dignity, and refers to I Chronicles 9:22, I Chronicles 9:26, I Chronicles 9:31; II Chronicles 31:12, II Chronicles 31:15; II Chronicles 34:12, etc. Moses was a faithful, well-tried servant in the house of God, and therefore he uses him as a familiar, and puts confidence in him.
