Numbers 23:19
Compare all
17 So he came to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab were with him. And Balak said to him, “What has the Lord spoken?”
18 Then he took up his oracle and said:
a“Rise up, Balak, and hear!
Listen to me, son of Zippor!
19 “Goda is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He bsaid, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
20 Behold, I have received a command to bless;
aHe has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
21 “Hea has not observed iniquity in Jacob,
Nor has He seen1 wickedness in Israel.
The Lord his God is with him,
bAnd the shout of a King is among them.

Numbers 23:18-20

Even this pagan high priest could not reverse the Word of God.

Has God made any prophecies at all about Jesus of Nazareth? If He has made prophecies, how many has He made? If He has made prophecies—and how many has He made?—has He backed them up? God is not a liar, like a man. Has He said, and not done? How many has He fulfilled? Have they been fulfilled without error? Is there any chink in the armor of evidence that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ?

Do you realize that if God is wrong on one thing that He utters, we cannot then really trust Him? How do we know that He will not be wrong on something else? Let us go a little farther.

Numbers 23:19

So there was nothing hidden between God and His command to Abraham because there was fifty years of evidence for Abraham to reason, to calculate from, and to reach a conclusion. By faith then, he resolutely faced and pursued that conclusion. So what are some of the things that Abraham had to reason with?

Abraham knew this. He knew that it was impossible for God to lie. He knew that the God who had given him the promise was now requiring him to sacrifice his son. These are things that are written for you and me, but Abraham knew them by his fellowshipping with God.

Numbers 23:19

People lie to hide something about themselves. Or they lie to exaggerate a circumstance or what they are or their participation in a thing. But men will read a scripture like this, and then in the context of a different subject say that God is absolutely correct. Why do they say that?

They say that God does not lie, and that He can be trusted. They say that He says what He means and that He means what He says, and then they turn right around and in a different context say that He really does not mean what He says. There is a real incongruity there.

Numbers 23:19

This is the God we worship. He will not go back on what He told us.
