60 ^aTo Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

61 And ^aNadab and Abihu died when they offered profane fire before the Lord.

62 ^aNow those who were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and above; ^bfor they were not numbered among the other children of Israel, because there was ^cno inheritance given to them among the children of Israel.

63 These are those who were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel ^ain the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho.

64 ^aBut among these there was not a man of those who were numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they numbered the children of Israel in the ^bWilderness of Sinai.

Numbers

NUMBERS. This book is so called because it contains an account of the enumeration and arrangement of the Israelites. The early part of it, from the first through the tenth chapters, appears to be a supplement to Leviticus, being occupied with relating the appointment of the Levites to the sacred offices. The journal of the march through the wilderness is then given as far as Numbers 21:20; after which the early incidents of the invasion are narrated. One direct quotation only from this book (Numbers 16:5) is made in the New Testament (II Timothy 2:19); but indirect references to it by the later sacred writers are very numerous.
