Excerpted from: Azazel: EndingsThere is no thought of representation, but instead that this action was on account of the LORD, or for the sake of the LORD, or with respect to the LORD. Later in the chapter (Numbers 31:28, 50), the Israelites were to levy a tribute, which became an offering, for the LORD. Again, there is no symbolism implied in this phrase. One more:
