1 Samuel 27:6

4 And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath; so he sought him no more.

5 Then David said to Achish, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”

6 So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore ^aZiklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.

7 Now¹ the time that David ^adwelt in the country of the Philistines was one full year and four months.

8 And David and his men went up and raided ^athe Geshurites, ^bthe Girzites, and the ^cAmalekites. For those nations were the inhabitants of the land from² of old, ^das you go to Shur, even as far as the land of Egypt.

Achish gave him Ziklag - Ziklag was at first given to the tribe of Judah, but afterwards it was ceded to that of Simeon, Joshua 15:31; Joshua 19:5. The Philistines had, however, made themselves masters of it, and held it to the time here mentioned; it then fell into the tribe of Judah again, and continued to be the property of the kings of Judah. This verse is a proof that this book was written long after the days of Samuel, and that it was formed by a later hand, out of materials which had been collected by a contemporary author.
