1 Kings 11:11
Compare all
9 So the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the Lord God of Israel, awho had appeared to him twice,
10 and ahad commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the Lord had commanded.
11 Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, aI will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your bservant.
12 Nevertheless I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13 aHowever I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give bone tribe to your son cfor the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem dwhich I have chosen.”

What Does 1 Kings 11:11 Mean?

1 Kings 11:9-11

These three verses reveal that idolatry came to dominate Solomon's relationship with God. Also, they lead into the story of Jeroboam. What Jeroboam did had something to do with the holy days and idolatry. Notice in verse 11 God says, "Because you have done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes." The holy days are statutes. Could Solomon keep the holy days of God and worship Milcom and Chemosh? Would they not have holy days too? Something syncretistic was going on here.

1 Kings 11:11-13

God tells Solomon that his descendants would not inherit a throne over all Israel. God says He would maintain Solomon's dynasty, however, out of respect for His promise to David that his throne would be established forever (II Samuel 7:16). Under David, the scepter had come to Judah. It was not to depart from Judah, as Genesis 49:10 declares.
