The meaning of Shemuel in the Bible
(From International Standard Bible Encyclopedia)

she-mu'-el, shem'-u-el (shemu'el, "name of God" (?) (I Chronicles 6:33 (18)); the Revised Version (British and American) Samuel, the prophet (see SAMUEL); compare Gray, HPN, 200, note 3):

(1) The Simeonite appointed to assist in the division of the land (Numbers 34:20). The Massoretic Text should be emended to shelumi'el, to correspond with the form found in Numbers 1:6; Numbers 2:12; Numbers 7:36, Numbers 7:41; Numbers 10:19. Septuagint has uniformly Salamiel.

(2) Grandson of Issachar (I Chronicles 7:2) (Codex Vaticanus Isamouel; Codex Alexandrinus and Lucian, Samouel).
