2 Samuel 7:18-29David's humility about himself and his deep respect for God are clearly shown in his response. He, a converted man, was stunned by what God promised, understanding the expanse and depth of God's words as few others who have ever lived. His response is clearly juxtaposed with God's promise so we can perceive a distinct picture of the personality of a person who truly pleased God. John W. Ritenbaugh

What the Bible says about David's Affection for God
(From Forerunner Commentary)
Did David have feeling about God? Did he really love God? Did he love to fellowship with Him? We can begin to see why God said of this man—even when he was a teenager, "Here is somebody after My own heart!" David was in love with God! John W. Ritenbaugh
